  • External Service Request

Please use this form for Tech Foundry services when external to UC
  • Thanks for selecting the UC Davis Tech Foundry (formerly TEAM) for help with your project!  This form ensures that we capture info about your project so that we can best serve you. It should take a few minutes to populate.

We aim to make this process as low-friction as possible.  Feedback on this process is always welcome!

All external services necessitate an approved quote before we can contine; After you have submitted this form, stand-by additional paperwork to proceed with your effort.

Before you continue: Please note that our external recharge rate structure does not facilitate small inexpensive prints/activities.  The amount of paperwork and processing required by the university translates to a minimum project cost of about $200.

NOTICE: WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF LAUNCHING OUR NEW AGGIE SQUARE LOCATION IN SACRAMENTO, WHICH WILL RESULT IN LONGER-THAN-USUAL TURNAROUND TIMES.

FURTHER, BECAUSE OF THIS EXPANSION, WE ARE LIMITING THE NUMBER OF NEW DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS WE ARE ENGAGED IN.

WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE DURING THIS EXCITING TRANSITION.

  • Service Details:

  • Notes, disclosures, and expectations:

    1. Most printing and laser cutting requests take ~2 days, but more extensive requsts generally take longer, and depend on facility workload.

    2. UC requests, and clinically urgent requests will always take priorty.

  • Please note that shipment will necessitate additional processing fees.

  • You've selected "not sure" for "services in this request."  No worries - we'll review your request submission, and get back to you if necessary.

  • A very important note on our PCB manufacturing services:

Our boards are very simple dual-layer, bare-copper, with no thru-hole plating.  Further, we do not fully remove all copper patches unless specifically asked for (we simply isolate adjacent conductive traces).

These boards are appropriate for cases where you need rapid-turnaround, low-fidelity boards (6mil traces would be our suggested minimum).  A more traditinoal board-house will furnish a far superior board, at a lower cost (at the cost of turndaround time).

  • General Information on Laser-Cutting:

Please see our website for more details, but here's a quick summary:

    Materials we will cut:

Plastics: ABS, Acrylic, Delrin, HDPE, Kapton tape, Mylar, Nylon*, PETG, Polyethylene(PE)*, Polypropylene(PP)*

Thin Metals: Steel, Stainless Steel, Titanium, Nickel

Other: Cloth, Paper, Rubber (that does not contain chlorine), Teflon (thin films work best), Woods (MDF, balsa, bass, birch, oak, cherry, pine, etc)

    *Melts/Cuts Poorly

    Materials we won't cut:

Polycarbonate, Materials with Chlorine, PCV, Vinyl, Glass**, fiberglass, PCB (Copper Clad FR4), Cured Carbon Fiber

    **limited success cutting glass

Please inquire if your material isn't listed here.

    Acceptable File Formats:

Illustrator, .DWG, CorelDraw (.CDW), Vector PDF, other vector formats

  • General Information on 3D Printing:

Please see our website, and this chart we've developed for details on our offerings

  • Because you've selected "multiple technologies" or "other," please ensure you've adequately described your needs in the above "project description" field (earlier in this form).

  • Please note: the options shown below are commonly on-hand here in the lab. Other material options are also availible; use the "other" field to specify alternative materials, or speak with the lab manager for more details.

  • File Upload

  • Please upload relevant files below.  If your file type of choice is rejected, please compress your file into a zip archive to permit the upload.

  • For 3D Printing: At minimum, upload a mm-scale STL file.  If possible, please also include the original CAD file.  Please provide quantities in the "general comments" region of this form (above), and in the file name if possible.

    Example:  2x_myPart.stl= 2 copies

  • For 3D Imaging Reconstruction: Upload a ZIP file of the raw DICOM data, send link to shared folder, or upload data collaborative box directory.  We will review the data, and send proofs for approval/iteration.

  • For CAD Design: Please upload any files which may aid in the design process.  These include hand-drawn sketches/drawings, previous CAD drawings, pictures, etc.

  • For Laser Cutting: Please upload an appropriate .dwg, .dxf, .pdf, or other 2D vector-format file.

  • For Machining: Please upload any relevant sketches, or CAD files.

  • For PCB Manufacturing: Please upload your design.  Our prefered format is Gerber.
